MAS-ISBCC Ramadan Iftar
It was a night full of surprises. New faces, a more elaborate setup, FANCY DISPOSABLE PLATES STEMWARE! SubhanAllah all the volunteers put their heart into making the night a memorable one for all the attendees, and it was very memorable. I'm writing this about ten days later and I still remember the exact setup and order (or oftentimes lack thereof) that took place that night (for those of you who know me...this is a feat in and of itself).
It was a long night so I wont bore you with all the details but I'll throw out a few things that made me chuckle or that I saw as important to mention.
The VIP door on the men's side was a little comical. I was assigned to man it with two other people and with the three of us blocking the way it was pretty tough to let people actually get through. Almost every guy that wanted to descend through those set of stairs had no idea where he put his ticket....some were in wallets, some were in pockets, some were lost forever and never turned up (but it's Ramadan so we let it slide, I mean it's not like the guy was lying!).
Another incident that begs mentioning is the amazing efficiency with which the kitchen staff (operating out of the cafe) were working. They were sending out food like vendors sell out of hotcakes....whoever thought of that phrase anyways? The point is there was a continuous stream of volunteers coming in and out of the cafe and everyone was served their food, desert, and even the cleanup was done relatively efficiently.
Most amazingly: With the multitude of volunteers that we had, we were successfully able to take apart and clean up the entire prayer area in under 20 minutes! That's something that will surprise me no matter how many times I say it.
All in all it was another one of my experiences to add to the growing list of amazing experiences that I had in the ISBCC!
