Beyond the 30: Making Every Moment Like Ramadan
Retreat is all about taking a step back from the distractions of day to day life and looking for ways to improve your relationship with Allah. This summer’s retreat was all about making the most out of your Ramadan and learning a few tips and tricks to keep up the momentum that you gained. It was called: “Beyond the 30: Making Every Moment Like Ramadan” and we invited Imam Suhaib Webb. Imam Suhaib Webb, one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims, spoke about issues that were very relevant to us and made us very comfortable with asking him the questions that we usually shied away from.
About 45 people took part in the retreat this year....just a few of the things we did were: learn from Imam Suhaib Webb, gather in quran study circles, made s'mores and reflected around a campfire, played basketball, and did loads of exciting team-building activities that range from "face-off" to preparing the wood to make the campfire. Not to mention we had awesome food, some we BBQ'ed ourselves and the rest we catered from Boston and Mansfield!
Not to get into too many specifics but the program was: lecture, isha, team-building activities, sleep, qiyam, fajr, sleep, breakfast, lecture, sports, BBQ, dhuhr, quran reflections, lecture, asr, lecture, dinner, maghrib, campfire, isha, sleep, qiyam, fajr, sleep, breakfast, lecture, dhuhr, lunch. That's a roungh taste of the entire weekend, of course when I say sleep I use the term loosely.....I know about 10 people who chose to stay up rather than sleep, if only to get to know others on a deeper level. Despite our lack of sleep Allah gave us the energy to push through the weariness and fully participate in the retreat and all of its functions, which in and of itself was a blessing.
All in all, as the nights turned into days, all the retreat-ers developed a strong sense of camaraderie and by the end of the retreat we all knew we had at least 7 other people we could count on to help inspire us through the month of Ramadan. We hope to take the lessons we learned from this retreat and use them to make this Ramadan a more phenomenal one.
May Allah bless all of our Ramadans. Ameen
