"To move young people to strive for God-consciousness and social justice and convey Islam with utmost clarity."
Muslim American Society Youth - Boston Chapter
As the division of the Muslim American Society (MAS) that deals with young people, we identify ourselves as a movement of American Muslim youth and young adults who responded to Allah's (God's) call in the Quran:
"There should always be among you some people who invite to what is good, enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong; and those will be the successful." [3:104]
To fulfill this responsibility, we help and urge youth and young adults to learn, understand, apply, spread, and advocate Islam and its values. These may also include solutions and systems in the service of the common good, such as volunteering in their communities, helping to build shelters for the homeless, etc. Consequently, MAS Youth Boston amasses many projects in the Greater Boston area, some of which include:
Usra Program
An empowering self-development program in which groups of youth, under the guidance of a trained mentor, explore their faith, build their connection with God, and practice what they learn together. The Usrah, Arabic for 'family', gives young people strong bonds of friendship, guidance, and support. A time-tested method, the MAS Youth Usrah Program impacts hundreds of young American Muslims each year.
Retreats
The retreat is a semi-annual event conducted by MAS Youth Boston immersing young people in a week-long, transformational experience. Retreats are designed to spark spiritual awakening: for one weekend, young people abandon all electronic distractions and retreat to a secluded area to improve their spirituality and conduct team-building activities. Young people emerge from the retreat refreshed and ready to impart the good that they learned unto those who did not have the fortune to attend.
Revives
MAS Youth Revive is a monthly gathering for young people to reconnect and revive their faith. This can be conducted in many different ways; ranging from nightly prayers in a mosque to a kayak across the Charles. No matter the fun in between, the objective is to set aside a time for prayer and reflection on oneself; by reviving our spirits we take the first steps in reviving our community.
